Ways of Singing the Psalms

Author:
Ronald Johnson

A report of a workshop on psalm singing as part of the Annual Meeting of 1987 given by Michael Chibbett, organist of Greyfriars, with his church choir. A history of the development of chant was illustrated by examples, and the music of Reformation psalmody was explored, followed by the development of Anglican chant. Examples were given of these ancient forms in contemporary dress in the psalm settings of Father Gelineau and the simple chants of John Currie.
