Reflections on Online Communion

This is a statement, with elaboration from the Theological Forum of the General Assembly, which tends towards seeing online Communion as valid. It explores the area of physical versus virtual gathering, time and distance lag, the streaming of a live event as opposed to a recording, and includes suggestions to help towards fuller involvement.

Following studies in Aberdeen, Donald taught English for two years in Japan. He then trained for Church of Scotland ministry in Edinburgh before a PhD at Trinity College, Dublin. He was a parish minister in the East Neuk of Fife for ten years before becoming Chaplain to the University of St Andrews in 2011. He has been Convener of the Church of Scotland’s Theological Forum since 2017, and a lover of cats, hens, golf and Scandi noir for longer.
