The Lee Lecture, 1964, at the Kirk of the Greyfriars, by the Rev Stewart Todd, BD, North Leith
Mr Todd explores some basic questions about the place of music within church life in the context of contemporary hopes that there may be a new Church Hymnary. He argues for music to be at the service of the Word proclaimed – and therefore going beyond such debate as may arise amongst musicians alone or over musical taste. This said, he supports both generational revisitings of the Hymnary and regular reviews of Sunday worship.
